Glen Helen to Hermannsburg
Well hi to all our friends reading about our travels. We headed off west to Glen Helen on 31st May for a few days. The resort was dusty but ok, with dingo's howling at night. It was an interesting 3 days. Looking back in time as with the Grosse Bluff meteor crater just a mere 142 million years ago.
Ian & snowflake in the car park at the centre of the crater, we had a 66 km drive of which 15 kms was gravel & most of it was 4x4 work. But it was well worth it once we arrived.
The crater from the east side.
Just loved the grass trees along the way, the country changed from woodlands to grass to rocks all in the space of 6km
A dry river bed on the 4x4 section of the main road, the dept. ran out off money after 2 years of work & 2 wets to wash the work away.

We had a really good time at Glen Helen, although we found when we got there we found that we had scrub out the front tyres on snowflake, when we returned to Alice we had then replaced at $300 each but mayby it was a good thing because the repairer found that the front alignment arm bolts where very loose. Lucky really the tyres saved a nasty accident. On Monday 7th we headed north, so more about that next time.
